AAG matches student volunteers with residents in a local long-term care facility. It is the duty of each volunteer to attend all monthly group activities and to meet with his or her "adopted" grandparent for at least a one-hour weekly visit. Weekly visits are scheduled at the convenience of the student-volunteer. The elderly individuals enrolled in the AAG program may be isolated from their friends and family and are often lonely or depressed. Throughout the program, our volunteers transition from strangers to valued companions. In the process, volunteers often gain empathy and compassion while simultaneously becoming an important part of their grandparents’ lives!

AAS connects USD students with teachers in the Vermillion elementary and middle school systems. The student-volunteer serves as a teacher's aid, assisting with anything from grading papers to helping children learn to read. Volunteers are paired with a single teacher with whom they work together to find a weekly time that is most fitting for everyone. By committing a minimum of one hour a week, students are able to alleviate teachers' workloads while simultaneously impacting students in the classroom!

Mission: To cultivate positive social change through community collaboration, the AWOL program immerses students in educational Service-Learning experiences that expose participants to diverse social issues and encourages applying those experiences to enhance justice in their communities.

BPLP matches USD student volunteers with students from Vermillion Elementary School to form a special friendship throughout the school year. Big Pals are expected to spend a minimum of one hour a week with their Little Pal, as well as attend monthly group events. These excursions may include roller skating, bowling, going to the movie theatre, visiting the zoo, and more! This program provides you with a chance to make a difference in a child's life, unlike any other, and they will undoubtedly impact you in some way too! In addition, members will be invited to monthly service-based meetings to build community, earn volunteer hours, and explore leadership opportunities.

Mission
The Bridges program gives students the opportunity to spend time with clients of the organization SESDAC, a facility located in Vermillion that serves individuals with disabilities. Students have the option to spend one hour a week assisting with activities at the SESDAC center or spending quality time with residents in group homes. There are also group events that take place throughout the year, including attending sporting events, caroling, the Special Olympics, and more!

Campus Activities Board is an event planning board that brings a wide variety of activities and events for every student to enjoy.

Some events may include Movie Nights on the Lawn, Skate Parties, Crafting with CAB, Stuff-A-Buddy, and so much more.

Charlie’s Cupboard is dedicated to addressing food insecurity and improving the lives of students at the University of South Dakota by providing food and personal care products to anyone with a student ID. The Cupboard welcomes all who would like to volunteer to support their campus community. Membership in the organization is not required to use the Cupboard's services.

Dakotathon is a yearlong fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network that culminates with a 12-hour dance marathon on April 18th of 2026. At this marathon, we invite Miracle Children from around the region to come spend the entire time with us learning a dance, playing games, listening to concerts, eating a bunch of food and much more! The purpose of the event is to show the Miracle Children the time of their lives away from their normal routine of clinical visits and checkups of that sort.

The organization part of Dakotathon deals with the Executive Team planning and organizing fundraisers both on and off campus throughout the year – those who sign up to participate in the Marathon are asked and encouraged to attend all these fundraisers. Additionally, those who sign up are asked to raise a personal fundraising goal of $200 (which is not a lot considering you have the whole year to fundraise!!).

Last year Dakotathon had over 500 students participate and raised over $100,000!

This group is designed to bring together individuals at USD with a common interest in Esports and gaming. Whether it's playing or watching, we have a place for you within our organization! The games USD Esports currently participates in are as follows: League of Legends, Valorant, Apex, Counter Strike, Overwatch, Fortnite, Rocket League, Smash Bros, Rainbow 6: Siege, and Call of Duty. If there's another game you play not listed, let us know and we'll see if we can add it to the list!

SERVE (Student Engagement & Refinement for Volunteering Empowerment) is a student-led volunteer organization at the University of South Dakota focused on connecting USD students with service opportunities with community partners within our surrounding communities. We are advised by the Office of Service Learning, and we pride ourselves on our goal of supporting the educational mission of USD by providing service-based opportunities for USD students, training students for volunteer success, as well as creating an environment which advocates the importance of community service and helping others.

SHP-USD is a student-led organization at The University of South Dakota, advised by the Office of Service Learning, and dedicated to supporting the mission of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) national chapters—ensuring that no child sleeps on the floor. Our organization brings USD students together to build and deliver beds to children in need, advocate for youth well-being, and foster a culture of community service.

Through volunteer build days, bed deliveries, and campus outreach, we empower students to make a direct impact on the lives of children while developing leadership and teamwork skills.

As the liaison between students, administration, faculty, and the South Dakota Board of Regents, the Student Government Association (SGA) works to enhance communication, understanding, and cooperation throughout the university.

One of the responsibilities of SGA is to allocate money to student organizations each year that provide cultural, recreational, educational, and social opportunities outside of the classroom. At the same time, we work with university faculty, administration, and students to address important campus issues.
